Early Life
Niyola was born Eniola Akinbo on December 9, 1985, in Lagos State Nigeria. She is the youngest child in a family of ten children.
She grew up with her siblings in Lagos where she had both her primary and secondary education. She also obtained a degree in English language at the University of Lagos.
Career
Niyola developed passion for music at a very early age where she sang in church. She was inspired to pursue a career in music after attending a Funmi Adams concert.
Her music career began after she emerged runner up in the Amen Starlet competition in 2000. She came through professionally in 2005 and was briefly affiliated with eLDee’s Trybe Records.
After some time with Trybe Records, Niyola signed a production deal with Make Sum Noise Entertianment where she released her three singles “No More”, “Me n U”, and “Dem Say” under the record label.
She signed a record deal with Banky W’s Empire Mates Entertainment in May 2012 and releases her first song under the label titled “Toh Bad” on May 22, 2013. The song brought to the limelight in the Nigerian music scene.
She got more exposure for her singles “Last Bus Stop” and “Go On” as released in 2014 and 2015 respectively. She has also released other songs like Go, Olumoranti, Bring It On, Gimme Room, All My Life, Where is the Love, Lonely, Together Again and so on.
She has worked with top artists like Wizkid, Banky W, Lynxx, Skales, and so on. She also did lots of soundtracks for Yoruba movies. She wrote the theme song for 2face Idibia’s second album concert in 2007, and also did jingles for Coca Cola other few international brands.
As an actress, she starred as “Tolani” in the Nigerian movie “Swallow” in 2021. The movie which was directed by Kunle Afolayan, also featured the likes of Deyemi Okanlawon, Ijeoma Grace Agu, and Chioma Chukwuka Akpotha.
When her music career wasn’t thriving, she moved to the United States of America while shuffling between USA and Nigeria.
She later became one of the judges in the voice Nigeria season 4 alongside the likes of Praiz, Waje and Naeto C.
