Early Life
Born Viktor Einar Gyökeres on June 4, 1998 in Stockholm, Sweden to Swedish parents. His father, Mikael Gyökeres is a former professional footballer and his mother Katarina Gyökeres is a former profedsional handbal player. He is of Hungarian descent through his grand father.
Career
Viktor Gyökeres began his career at the youth level with IFK Aspudden-Tellus before joining IF Brommapojkama in 2013.
He made his senior debut for IF Brommapojkamma in 2015. He scored his first goal for the club in a 3-0 victory against IF Sylvia on August 20, 2015 where he netted a brace. He also helped his side secured promotion back into the Superettan with his seven goals contribution, with the club having suffered relegation the season before.
He signed a three-year contract with the English club Brighton and Hove Albion on January 1, 2018. He made his debut on August 28 in a 1-0 EFL defeat to Southampton. He made his FA Cup debut in a goalless draw with West Bromich Albion on January 26, 2019.
He went on loan to the German second tier side FC St. Pauli for the 2019-20 season and made his debut for the club in a 1-1 away draw to Arminia. He scored his first goal for St. Pauli in a 2-0 win over SV Sandhausen on Sepyember 29.
He scored his first goal for Brighton in a 4-0 win over Portsmouth on September 17, 2020.
Gyökeres joined EFL Championship side Swansea City on loan for the remainder of the 2020-21 season and made his debut a day later in a 2-1 home win against Millwall.
He joined Coventry City on loan on January 15, 2021 and was later signed on a permanent deal on July 9, 2021 on a three-year contract.
Gyökeres joined the Primeira Liga side Sporting CP on a five-year deal on July 13, 2023, for a record transfer fee of €20 million. He made his debut for the club on August 12, where he scored twice in a 3-2 league victory at home to Vizela.
At the international scene, Gyökeres represented Sweden at the under-19 and under-21 levels. He made his debut for the senior team in 0-1 loss to Finland. His scored his goal for Sweden in a 2-2 draw with Iceland. He was called up to the Swedish national team to replace Zlatan Ibrahimovic for the match against Kosovo and Greece ahead of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
