Early Life
MHD was born Mohamed Sylla on September 10, 1994 in La Roche-sur-Yon, France. He is of mixed ethnicity as his father Mamadou Sylla is a Guinean and his mother Mamidie Diop Sylla is of Senegalese descent. His cousin Rapper Gazo is a French-Guinean rapper.
Career
MHD began rapping at the age of 18 with influences from the likes of Awilo Longomba, Koffi Olomide, Papa Wemba and Salif Keita.
Before Fame, he worked as a waiter in a restaurant in the 6th arrondissement. He got his stage name MHD from his first name “Mohamed”.
He began to post his songs on YouTube and eventually got his big break with Afro Trap Part 3 (Champions League), a song praising football club Paris Saint-Germain. He was then invited to be an opening acts for French Rapper Booba and also starred in the soundtrack of the film Pattaya.
He came through with his first studio album MHD, on April 15, 2016, with collaborations from the likes of Fally Ipupa and Angelique Kidjo. He also followed up with his second studio album in September 2018. The album also featured the likes of Wizkid, Salif Keita, Orelsan, and Dadju.
He released his third album Mansa on July 17, 2021 which include features from the likes of Adekunle Gold, Tiakola and Naira Marley. He also collaborated with the Argentine producer Bizarap in September 2021.
Apart from music, MHD also made his film debut with the French drama, Mon FrĆØre (My Brother).
