Early Life

Ava Max was born on February 16, 1994 in Wisconsin, United States to parents from her Albania. She grew up in Hampton Roads as her family moved to Virginia when she was 8 years old.

Her father, Paul hails from Qeparo while her mother Andrea, is from Sarande. She also has a brother who is years older. Her father was a pianist and her mother, a trained opera singer.

She had previously homeschooled before she went to Lexington High School.

Max has also described herself as 100 percent Albanian while stating that she can only speak the language but can’t read it.


Ava Koci had performed in several singing competitions and started releasing songs with the stage name Amanda Kay before she later came up with the middle name Ava and adopted it as her first name at the age of 14.

She moved to South Carolina in pursuit of her music career and began writing songs about life experiences.

Ava developed her passion with music influences from the likes of Mariah Carey, Britney Spears, Beyonce, Gwen Stefani, Alicia Keys, to mention a few.

She started releasing songs in 2013 with the track “Take Away The Pain” and met Canadian record producer Cirkut in 2014 where they worked together while writing hundreds of songs. Both released the single “Anyone But You” on Soundcloud on July 2016.

The record had gained attention from several record labels and eventually got signed with Atlantic records in 2016.

She decided to use the name Ava Max while adopting her signature hairstyle “Max Cut”.
Ava released songs like “My Way”, “Slippin” alongside Albernian American singer, Gashi, “Not Your Barbie Girl” and so on before she eventually rose to fame with the hit single “Sweet but Psycho” as released on August 17, 2018

The song recorded huge commercial success while reaching number one in more 20 countries which include the likes of United Kingdom, Austria, Germany, New Zealand and so on.

She followed up with the release of another single “So Am I” in March 2019 and with a remix featuring South Korean boy band NCT 127, as released in July 2019. She also released songs like “Freaking Me Out”, and “Blood, Sweat &Tears”, as promotional singles in July 2019.
Max entered a joint co-publishing deal with Warner Chappell Music and Artist Publishing Group on September 4, 2019. She released a music video for “Freaking Me Out” as Halloween special, on October 31, 2019.

After so much anticipation, she finally released her debut studio album “Heaven & Hell” on September 18, 2020.

She already enjoyed top notch collaborations with the likes of AJ Mitchell, David Guetta, Alan Walker, Thomas Rhett, and Kane Brown.
