Tia Carrere was born on January 2, 1967, in Honolulu, Hawaii, United States, to parents: Audrey Lee Janairo and Alexander Janairo. Her father was a banker while her mother was a computer supervisor.
Carrere is of mixed ethnicity; of Filipino, Spanish and Chinese descent.
She went to Sacred Hearts Academy, an All-girls school for her elementary education.

Tia Carrere was discovered in a Waikiki grocery store and got a lead role as Lani in the indie movie Aloha Summer.
She rose to fame for her role in the daytime soap opera General Hospital. She made guest appearance on Tour of Duty and MacGyver. She appeared as the adopted daughter of Marty Gold (Richard Lewis) on Anything But Love.
