Early Life & Background
Oluchi was born in Lagos part of Nigeria to a Civil servant father and mother who was a nurse.
She grew up in Lagos alongside her two brothers and sisters.
She obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Leadership and Management from New York University.
Her first name “Oluchi” which was coined from the Igbo language, mean “God’s Work”.
Career
Oluchi launched her modeling career after emerging winner of the “Nokia Face of Africa” competition in 1998 where she was given a three year modeling contract with Elite Model Management.
She made her debut on the runway in 1998 for designer Marc Bouwer and also became the cover girl of Nars Cosmetics.
After relocating to New York, Oluchi began to appear in editorials for America and Italian Vogue; Harper’s Bazaar, Marie Claire, Allure and so on.
She has walked the runways for top brands such as Gucci, Givenchy, Christian Dior, Fendi, Jeremy Scott, Dell’Acqua, Girgio Armani, Tommy Hilfiger and many others.
Oluchi has appeared in advertising campiagns for the likes of Anna Taylor, Gap, L’Oreal, Coca-Cola, Clinique as well as working for Victoria’s secret in print walking for seven consecutive years in the annual Victoria’s secret fashion show.
Onweagba also worked with top photographers such as Steven Meisel, David LaChapelle, Patrick Demarchelier and Nick Knight.
After the end of Oluchi’s three year contract with Elite Model Management, she signed with DNA Model Management. She featured in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue four times, from 2005 to 2008.
Oluchi launched a modeling agency “OModel Africa” in 2008. The model agaency which is situated in South Africa, has offices in both Johannesburg and Cape Town. She also became the host and judge of the reality show “Africa’s Next Top Model”.
The beautiful model made her film debut in 2004 in the movie “After the Sunset”.
Personal Life
Oluchi got married to the Italian fashion designer, Luca Orlandi in August 2005 and their union is blessed with two sons, one of whom is Ugochukwu Orlandi born in April 2007.
