Early Life
Kapil Sharma was born Kapil Punj on April 2, 1981, in Punjab, India. He was born in a Punjabi Hindu family as his father Jeetendra Kumar Punj was a head constable in Punjab Police and his mother Janak Rani, a homemaker. His father passed away in 2004 after being diagnosed with cancer in 1997.
He has two siblings; a brother named Ashok Kumar Sharma who is a police constable and a sister named Pooja Pawan Devgan.
He went to Shri Ram Ashram Senior Secondary School and Hindu College in Armritsar. He also attended Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar
Career
Sharma came to the limelight after emerging winner of the comedy reality television show The Great Indian Laughter Challenge in 2007.
He won the six season of the show Sony’s Comedy Circus and also hosted the dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa Season 6.
He became a contestant in the show Ustaadon Ka Ustaad in 2008 and emerged as runner-up in Zee TV’s singing reality show Star Ya Rockstar in 2011.
He was the co-host of the 60th Filmfare Awards alongside Karan Johar in 2015. He was the presenter for the fourth season of Celebrity Cricket League in 2014. He made appearance as a guest on Koffee in 2017.
He made his Bollywood debut with a role in the romantic comedy Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon, starring alongside the likes of Sai Lokur, Manjari Phadnis, Elli Avram, and so on. He began a new show titled “The Kapil Sharma Show”.
He has starred in other movies and such as Zwigato, It’s My Life, Firangi, and many others.
