Early Life
Gbadebo Chinedu Rhodes-Vivour was born on March 8, 1983, in Lagos Island, Lagos, Nigeria. He grew up in Ikeja area of Lagos State. His parents are Barrister Olawale and Mrs Nkechi Rhodes-Vivour. His uncle, Bode Rhodes-Vivour, is a former justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria and jurist. He is from a mixed ethnic background as his father is from the Yoruba Tribe while his mother is Igbo.
He went to Chrisland primary and secondary school, and completed his secondary education at Ecol Artive Berlin in Paris. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in Architecture at University of Nottingham. He had his masters degree in the same field from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He had a second masters degree in Research and Public Policy, from the University of Lagos.
Career
Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour well known as GRV, started his career as an architect. He worked with Franklin Ellis Architects in the UK, before he returned to Nigeria where he worked with SISA, Cliff Consulting which is now known as Building Partnership CCP and Patrick Wayi.
GRV delved into politics and contested for the Ikeja Local Government Area chairmanship under the KOWA Party, in 2017. He lost to the candidate of the incumbent APC.
He contested for the Senate seat to represent Lagos West under the PDP in 2019. He emerged second and lost to the incumbent senator and contestant under the ruling party APC.
He became the Labour Party governorship candidate for the 2023 Lagos State gubernatorial election. He is to contest with APC’s Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and PDP’s Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran (Jandor).
As an activist, he is the convener of the civil society group, Nigerians Against GMO, an Anti-GMO advocacy group fighting against the proliferation of Genetically Modified Foods in Nigeria. He led a 2,000-man march to the Senate to lend a voice in the fight against environmental degradation, alongside Nnimmo Bassey, in 2017. He collaborated with WellaHealth in 2022, to provide free health checks and insurance for 1 million people in Lagos who have their voters card.
