Early Life
Gavi was born Pablo Martin Paez Gavira on August 5, 2004, in Palacios y Villafranca, Spain. Gavi’s mother’s name is Aurora Belen Gavira. She was said to be in a relationship with Gavi’s teammate Gerard Pique, a rumour which was not confirmed.
Career
Gavi began his football career at the youth level with La Liara Balompie, a club in his hometown. He spent two years there before he moved to Real Betis youth academy where he also spent two seasons.
He signed for Barcelona at the age of 11, and in September 2020, he signed his first professional contract with the club. He was promoted from the under-16 to the under-19 team.
He made his debut for Barcelona B in a 6-0 win over L’Hospitalet on February 21, 2021, where he came on as a substitute for Nico Gonzalez in the 77th minute.
He was promoted to the senior team ahead of the 2021-22 season. His impressive performances in the pre-season earned him a spot in Ronald Koeman’s squad selection ahead of Riqui Puig.
He played his first official match for Barcelona’s first team in a 2-1 La Liga victory over Getafe, where he came on as a substitute for Sergi Roberto in the 73rd minute, on August 29, 2021.
He scored his first goal for Barcelona in a 3-2 home win over Elche on December 18, 2021.
Gavi has represented Spain at the under-15, under-16, and under-18 levels before being called up to the senior team by Luis Enrique, on September 30, 2021. He made his debut for the national team in their UEFA Nations League win over Italy, on October 6, 2021. They eventually lost to France in the final. However, Gavi scored his first goal in the Nations League against the Czech Republic.
