Early Life
Timothy Weah was born Timothy Tarpeh Weah on February 22, 2000, in New York, United States. He was born to a Liberian father George Weah and a Jamaican mother, Clar Weah. His father George Weah was a professional football player and a Ballon d’Or winner and was later elected as the 25th President of Liberia in 2018, after serving three years in the Senate of Nigeria.
He was raised alongside his two older siblings, George Jr. and Tita. He has a cousin named Kyle Duncan, a football player for New York Red Bulls in Major League Soccer, and another cousin named Patrick Weah, also a footballer.
Career
Timothy Weah began his football career at the youth level with West Pines United and later played for BW Gottschee at the academy system.
He signed a three-year deal with the French club Paris Saint-Germain on July 3, 2017, where he spent most of the season with the reserves team.
He was included in PSG’s first-team squad in March 2018. He made his first start for PSG in a 0-0 draw against SM Caen and scored his first competitive goal for PSG in a 4-0 win against Monaco, on August 4, 2018.
He went on a six-month loan at Celtic, on January 7, 2019, and made his debut for the club on January 19, where he came on as a substitute for Scott Sinclair at the 69th minute.
He signed a five-year contract with Lille on June 29, 2019, and made his debut ina 2-1 home victory over Nantes on August 11. He only had three appearances in the 2019-20 season and missed out the rest of the season due to injury. He returned in 2020-21 season and played in the second match of the season where he came on at the 79th minute of the match against Stade de Reims.
Timothy Weah who is eligible to represent the likes of Jamaica, France and Liberia through his parents’ citizenship and residency, decided to play for the United States.
He represented United States at the under-17, under-20, and under-23 levels before being called up for the senior team in 2018. He made his debut for the national team in a 1-0 friendly win against Paraguay on March 27, 2018. He scored the United States’ first goal of the tournament in a 1-1 draw against Wales.
