Salma Hayek was born on September 2, 1966 in Coatzacoalcos, Mexico, to parents Sami Hayek Dominguez and Diana, Jimenez Medina.
She is of mixed ethnicity, her father who is an oil company executive in Mexico is of Lebanese descent and her mother, who is an opera singer and talent scout, is of Spanish descent. She also has a younger brother named Sami Hayek, who is a furniture designer.
She attended Academy of the Sacred Heart in Grand Coteau, Louisiana and studied International relations at the Universidad Iberoamericana.
Career
Hayek made her acting debut in 1988 with a role in the television series Un Nuevo Amanecer. She became known in the Mexican movie industry for her role in the telenovela Teresa.
She began to look for a greener pasture in Hollywood she started to appear in television series like Dream On, The Sinbad Show, and Mi Vida Loca.
She eventually got a breakthrough in Hollywood for her role in the film Desperado, in 1995. She followed up with a role in the drama Follow Me Home and the cop comedy Fled. She starred in the romantic comedy Fools Rush in, 1997, alongside Matthew Perry, and also featured in the romantic comedy Breaking Up alongside Russell Crowe.
