Early Life
Mehdi Taremi Piranshahrizadeh was born on July 18, 1992, in Bushehr, Iran. He is the third and the youngest child of his family. He has an elder brother named Mohammed, who is also a footballer.
Career
Mehdi Taremi began his football career at the youth level with Bargh Bushehr’s academy and later moved to Iranjavan’s youth team.
He joined Shahin Bushehr in 2010 and later moved to Iranjavan in 2013, where he signed a two-year contract until the end of the 2014-15 season. He became the league’s top scorer after Mokhtar Jomehzadeh when he scored 12 times in 22 appearances in 2013-14.
He joined Persepolis FC in 2014 on a two-year contract. He made his debut in a 1-1 draw with Naft Tehran, where he came on as a substitute in the 90th minute for Reza Norouzi. He scored his first goal for the club in a 1-0 win against Zob Ahan on August 15, 2014.
He signed an 18-month contract with the Qatari club Al-Gharafa on January 8, 2018, before joining Portuguese Club Rio Ave on July 23, 2019. He scored a hat trick in his first Primeira Liga match for the club in a match against C.D Aves on August 23, 2019. He finished his first season with 18 goals, the same as the likes of Pizzi and Carlos Vinicius.
He signed a four-year deal with the Portuguese club FC Porto in August 2020. He scored his first goal for the goal in a 3-1 home win against Portimonense on November 8, 2020. He finished the 2020-21 with 16 goals and won his first Primeira title in 2021-22 with 20 goals and 12 assists.
Taremi represented Iran at the Under-20 and under-23 levels before being called up to the senior team. He made his debut in a friendly match with Uzbekistan on June 11, 2015. He scored his first goal for the senior team in a 6-0 victory against Guam in a 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier. He was part of the team for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, where he scored two goals in a 6-2 loss to England at their opening match of the group stage.
