She came to prominence as a co-presenter for BBC One’s Peter Crouch: Save Our Summer alongside Peter Crouch and Alex Horne. She is also known for co-presenting Trending Live! on 4Music. She became an ambasasor for Adidas and also the Australian haie care brand, Aussie.

Early Life

Maya Jama was born on August 14, 1994 in Bristol, where she also grew up.

She is of mixed ethnicity as her father is from Somali while her mother, Sadie, is Swedish. She also has a brother named Omar.

She had her education in Cotham School in Bristol.

Career

Jama began to pursue a career in the media and the age of 18. She started as an actress, then to TV presenter and also a Fashion model.

As a presenter, she started with the weekly music video countdown on JumpOff TV before she worked for Sky UK on Trace Sports.

She became the host of Maya’s FIFA World World Cup Cities for Copa90, which is a travelogue that covers the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, in 2014 and the same year, she became the presenter for The Wrap Up at MTV.

She co-presented the Saturday Night game show Cannonball on ITV alongside the likes of Andrew Flintoff, Frankie Bridge and Ryan Hand, in September 2017 and in November, she became the youngest person at the age of 23, to co-host the MOBO awards alongside Marvin Humes.

Jama co-presented the first series of The Circle alongside Alice Levine, in September 2018 and also co-presented Stand Up to Cancer with Alan Carr and Adam Hills, in October 2018.

She came to limelight for presenting the Saturday evening BBC One TV programme Peter Crouch: Save Our Summer, in June 2020 and was announced as the new presenter of Glow Up: Britain’s Next make-Up star while replacing the former presenter, Stacey Dooley, in January 2021.

As a radio presenter, she hosted #DriveWithMaya, a weekly show on Rinse FM from 2014 to 2017.

She joined BBC1 in 2018, where she became the presenter for Radio 1’s Greatest Hits on Saturday’s and co-presenting every Friday alongside Chris Stark and Scott Mills.

Aside being a media personality, Jama launched a successful clothing collection with PrettyLittleThing in June 2018 and also followed up with a sevond collection in February 2019.

She also launched her own face and eye marks range, MIJ Masks, in December 2020.

Personal Life

Jama who lives in West London, was in a relationship with the British rapper, Stormzy, before they parted ways in 2019.
It was reported that she began dating the English footballer, Jack Grealish, in 2021.

Jama is a lover of football and she supports West Ham United.
