Linda Lizeth Caicedo Alegria was born on February 22, 2005 in Candelaria, Valle del Cauca, Colombia. Her parents names are Herlinda Alegria and Mauricio Caicedo.
She developed interest in football at a very tender age where her mother recounts she would kick utensils and other items around the house. She was enrolled in Juanchito FC, a boys-only youth football academy, at the age of five.
Linda Caicedo began her career with America de Cali at the age of 14 before she moved to Deportivo Cali in 2020, where she won a Colombia league title in 2021.
She joined the Spanish club Real Madrid on a three-year contract on February 21, 2022. She made her debut for the club in a match against Alhama CF on March 4, 2023. She scored her first goal for the club on March 9, 2023, at extra time of the Copa de la Reina quarter-finals.
She represented Colombia at the U-17 and U-20 levels before being called up to the national team in November 2019. She made her debut for the senior national team at the 2022 Copa America Femenina and scored her first goal of the tournament in a 2-1 win against Ecuador. Colombia advanced to the semifinal of the competition and she scored their only goal in a 1-0 against Argentina. They eventually lost 1-0 to Brazil in the final.
However, she made the squad list for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and became the first player in history to compete at three Women’s World Cups (U-17, U-20 and senior levels) within a year. Caicedo scored a goal in Colombia’s opening match against South Korea which ended 2-0 in favour of Colombia. She also scored the first goal of the match in a 2-1 victory against Germany.
Aside from football, Caicedo is an ambassador for Fundacion Mi Sangre, a charity created by Colombian singer Juanes and civic leader Catalina Cock Duque. She was also appointed as an ambassador of Resilient Youth by USAID in February 2023.
Linda Caicedo was diagnosed with Ovarian cancer in February 2020 and underwent surgery to remove the tunor in March. Her cancer was treated with chemotherapy, as she was bedridden for three months. She was declared cancer-free in September 2020. She returned to the football field days after her final round of chemotherapy.
Caicedo is in a relationship with Valentina. She dedicated her goal to her partner by demonstrating a love shape with her hands after scoring against Germany at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
