Early Life
Karl Toriola was born on March 16, 1972, in Osun State, Nigeria to parents Mr and Mrs Toriola. His father, Oba Toriola Olubiyi is a retired Doctor in Obafemi Awolowo University and now being installed the 20th Ogunsua of Modakeke Land, having succeeded Oba Moses Oyediran.
He had a good elementary and high school education. He obtained a degree in Electronic and Electrical Engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. She obtained a master’s degree in Communication Systems at the University of Wales, Swansea, United Kingdom.
He also went to Harvard Business School, USA, from 2005 to 2008, Institute of Management Development (IMD), Switzerland, in 2006, London Business School, the United Kingdom in 2009, Wharton Business School, the USA in 2011, and INSEAD, Singapore in 2013.
Career
Toriola began his career in the telecommunication sector where he worked with Ericsson Switzerland in 1995, where he worked for almost 5 years before he moved to Ericsson Nigeria to work as Support and Integration Manager for GSM.
He left Ericsson Nigeria in 2004 and joined Vmobile Nigeria as Chief Regional Officer, supervising technical functions for the next two years.
He left Vmobile and joined MTN Irancell, based in Tehran, in July 2006, as Operations Consultant. He moved to MTN Nigeria as Chief Technical Officer in October 2006. He was appointed CEO of MTN Congo Brazaville in 2011, and thereafter, CEO MTN Cameroon. He made MTN Cameroon the first subsidiary of MTN group to secure the investors in People Gold certification.
Toriola became Group Operating Executive, MTN Group, in 2015. He was promoted to Vice President, West and Central Africa for MTN Group in just a year. He became a successor of Ferdinand Moolman in October 2020 and brcame the CEO of MTN Nigeria on March 21, 2021.
