Early Life
John Ugbe was born on March 8 in Nigeria. He attended Federal University of Technology Owerri where he majored in Electrical and Electronics engineering and also obtained his master’s in Business Administration from the University of Liverpool.
He is also a fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the Nigerian Institute of Brand Management, and also a member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, the Council for Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria and Nigerian Institute of Management.
Career
John Ugbe began his career with Multichoice as a help desk analyst in 1998 before he joined MWEB as an IT Manager between 2003 and 2006.
He became the General Manager of MWEB Nigeria in March 2006. He also joined iWayAfrica Nigeria in 2007.
He went back to Multichoice in October 2011 where he became the managing director. Multichoice achieved a lot under his leadership which including rolling out three channels in three local Nigerian languages on Africa Magic, introduced Gotv, Multichoice talent factory, and Africa Magic Viewers Choice Award.
He was elected chairman of the Broadcasting Organization of Nigeria in October 2021. He was recognized at the BrandCom Awards for CEO of the Year (Media and Entertainment) in 2020.
