Early Life
Born Jeremy Baffour Doku on May 27, 2002 in Antwerp, Belgium. He is originally of Ghanaian descent. He is the second child of his parents David and Belinda. His father David is a former athlete. He has three siblings, an older brother and two younger sisters. His brother Jefferson was also part of Anderlecht youth academy.
Career
Doku began his career at the youth level with KVC Olympic Deurne and moved to Tubantia Borgehout in 2007. He joined Beerschot in 2009 and also played for the Anderlecht youth team from 2012-2018.
He made his professional debut for Anderlecht in a 4-2 loss to Sint-Truiden on November 25, 2018, and became the seventh youngest player to make his professional debut for the club. He scored his first professional goal in a league match against KV Oostende on December 1, 2019. He also scored 2 goals and provided an assist in the 7-0 victory over Zulte Waregem on March 2, 2020.
Doku joined the French club Rennes on a five-year deal for a fee of €26 million, on October 5, 2020. He scored his first goal for Rennes in a match against Metz on March 20, 2021. He also made 12 successful dribbles against Bordeaux on May 2, setting a new record in the French Ligue 1, with the previous one held by Neymar with 11 successful dribbles in PSG’s match against Lyon in December 2020.
Doku signed for the English club Manchester City for a fee of £55 million on August 21 to replace City’s former winger Riyad Mahrez.
At the international level, Doku played for Belgium at the under-15, under-16, under-17, and under-21 before being called up to the senior team.
He made his debut for the Belgian national team in a match against Denmark at the UEFA Nations League on September 5, 2020. He scored his first goal for the senior team in a 5-1 win against Iceland.
He represented Belgium at the UEFA Euro 202, held in June 2021, and 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
