The sensational singer is one of the most sought after female rapper in the Kenyan music industry.

She has a unique sound which cuts across different genres such as neo-soul, afro-soul and hip hop.

Early Life & Background

Fena Gitu was born on in Nairobi, Kenya.

She was raised by a single parent, Florence Gitu in Buruburu Estate in Easrlands.

She had her education at Catholic School Precious Blood where she majored in Computer Science.

She also joined the United State International University in 2008 where she studied International relations while minoring in Psychology.

Her sister, Maggie Gitu is a marriage, family and sex therapist and also a columnist on the Saturday Standard.

Career

Fena had wanted to be an astronaut but later developed passion for music at a very early age.

She came to limelight in 2008 after she emerged winner of the ‘Fete de la Musique’ competition at Aliance Francaise Nairobi.

She started professionally as a backup singer for Dela in 2009 before she joined Muthoni Drummer Queen’s team and in 2010, she began a solo career in the Kenyan music industry.

She came through with two albums “Fenamenon” and “Unleashed” which boast of more than 30 songs. She also performed in lots of musical events including the Coke Studio Africa Season 2.

She has shared the stage with top Kenyan musicians such as Sauti Sol, Wyre, Octopizzo, Nameless and so on. She has also performed alongside artistes outside the country which include the likes of Uhuru, HHP, Lush, Bucie, Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Vivian Green and so on.

Personal Life & Relationships

Fena has been accused of being a lesbian, of which she denied while saying her sexuality is nobody’s business.

She was said to have been linked to lesbian relations with several celebrities such as Edith Kimani, a former KTN news anchor and Marini Naturals founder Michelle Ntalami.
