Early Life
Ego Boyo was born Nwakaego Nnamani on September 6, 1968 in Umishi, Anambra State, South-east Nigeria, to parents, Augustine Nnamani and Gloria Nnamani.
Her family moved from Nigeria to Barbados during the Nigerian Civil War, when she was barely ten days old. She spent the very first four years of her life in Barbados before they returned to Enugu in 1971, and then to Lagos in 1976.
After her secondary school education, she went to the University of Benin for her tertiary education.
Career
Ego Boyo began her acting career in the late 80s when she became known for her role as Anne Haastrup in the television series Checkmate, starring alongside Richard Mofe-Damijo.
She unveiled her production company, Temple Productions in 1996. She produced the silent movie A Hotel called Memory in 2017, which won the audience award for best experimental film at the BlackStar Film Festival in Philadelphia.
She has produced and starred in other movies such as Violated, To Live Again, Keeping Faith, 30 Days, The Ghost and the House of Truth.
Aside from acting, she is a women advocate. She was Global Rights Ambassador for Global Rights Nigeria, where she focused on combating sexual violence against women. She is also an advocate for education, where she was on the advisory board of Oando Foundation, which has founded schools across Nigeria to create a sustainable educational system that will empower students.
She was also the 60th president of the International Women Society, an independent and non-profit organization founded in 1957. She took over from Izarene Adams and was succeeded by Abimbola Bawaallah.
