Bello Matawalle is a Nigerian politician and academician who came to prominence as the governor of Zamfara state since 2019 after taking over from Abdul’aziz Abubakar Yari. He has been in the political environment for up to 20 years, having served in the House of Assembly and House representatives.
Bello made his mark by serving as the Zamfara State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftancy Affairs, Commissioner for Environment, Rural Development.

Early Life
Bello Matawalle was born on February 12, 1962, in Zamfara State, noethern paet of Nigeria.
He attended Maradun Township primary school for his primary education. He went to Yaba College of Technology, Lagos and also Thamas Valley University, London.
Career
Matawalle was teacher at Government Girls College Moriki and Kwatarkoshi before he joined Federal Ministry of Water Resources. He left the ministry work and delved into politics in 1998. He won a seat in the House of Assembly, where he joined the defunct United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP) which comprises of politicians like Adamu Aliero, Attahiru Bafarawa, Atiku Abubakar, Ibrahim Gusau and so on.
Matawalle served as Zamfara State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftancy Affairs, Commissioner for Environment, Rural Development, and then Commissioner for Youth and Sports, between 1993 and 2003.
He was elected into the House of Representatives by his constituents Bakura/Maradun in May 2003 on the platform of the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP).
He was re-elected im 2007 while still under ANPP and later defect to PDP where he was re-elected for a third term in 2011.

He contested for the governorship seat in 2019 and lost to APC’s Muktar Idris. He never accepted the result on the basis that he would reclaim his stlen mandate at the elections petitions tribunal. The court withdrw the cerificatw that was issued to Mr Idris and re-issued it to Matawalle. He later decamped from People’s Democatic Party (PDP) to All Progress Congress (APC), in 2021.
