She came to prominence for her third album “Ina Ethe”, which was certified double platinum. She already boast of more than six albums to her credit and has also been recognized on Channel O list of “Africa’s Top 10 Female Singing Sensations”.

Early Life

Zonke Dikana was born on October  11, 1979 in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape, South Africa.

She was raised in Port Elizabeth and moved to Johannesburg later on. She was rasied in a music family as her father, Vuyisile Dikana was the lead drummer for the musical band called Black Slave and Flamingo and her stepmother Anneline Malebo sang for the band called Joy.

She had both her primary and secondary school education in South Africa and graduated from Masiphatisani High School in Motherwell.

She had obtained a degree in Human Resources Management from the University of the Free state, in 1977.

Career

Zonke Dikana began doing music at a very early age and for the passion of it, she has been in the music field since 1998.

She was introduced to several singers such as Ringo, Joe Nina and Deborah Fraser by her stepmother who wants to see her achieve her dreams. She became known for writing the lyrics of the song “Africa, My Motherland” for the band Jazzkantine well known as Culture Clan; which comprises of Zonke,Mandala and Mzo.They released an album titled Africa in Germany in the year 2003.

Zonke  recorded her first live album at the lyrics Theatre in Johannesburg as titled “Give and Take Live”  which was released by Sony Music Entertainment, in 2013.

She followed it up with another album “Work of Heart” in 2014, as inspired by the death of her sister Lulu Dikana.

She released her fifth album studio album “Work of Heart” in September 2015 and also boast of nominations in several categories at the 15th Metro FM Music awards.

She came through with her seventh studio album “L.O.V.E” on June 15, 2018. The album comprises of 9 tracks with feature from the Ghanaian sensation, Kwesta.

She also released another potential hit single titled “Lady” in October 2021.

Zonke Dikana got married to Tumi Mokoena and their union is blessed with two children, Noah and Milana.
