Early Life
Shepard Smith was born on January 14, 1964 in Mississippi, United States to parents, David Shephard Smith Sr. and Dora Ellen Anderson. His father was a cotton merchant while his mother an English teacher. His parents separated and he moved to Florida with his mother.
He went to Marshall Academy in HollySprings and then proceeded to the University of Mississippi where he obtained a bachelors degree in Journalism.
Career
Smith started his career on television with WJHG-TV in Florida.
He also became a correspondent for a Current Affair after several reporting jobs with WBBH-TV in Fort Myers, WSVN in Miami and WCPX-TV.
He joined Fox News Channel in 1996 where he reported on the death of Princess Diana in 1997, Bill Clinton’s 1998 impeachment trial, Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and the death if Michael Jackson on 2009.
The Fox Report with Shephard Smith was ranked third among the top five U.S cable news programs in 2003. He signed a three year contract for $8 million per year on November 19, 2007. He also renewed his contract with Fox on October 26, 2010, for another three years.
He became the managing director of Fox News breaking news division and the host of Shephard Smith Reporting in 2013.
Fox News signed Smith to a multi-year contract on March 15, 2018. He later announced on Shephard Smith Reporting on October 11, 2019, that he was leaving the network.
The business and economic news network, CNBC announced that Smith would join the network on July 8, 2020, as the chief general news anchor. He also serves as the host of The News With Shephard Smith.

Smith met his ex-wife, Virginia Donald during his academic years after which they began dating and later exchanged marital vows.
