Grace Sewell (born April 8, 1997) popularly known as Saygrace, is an Australian singer and songwriter who came to prominence for her hit single “You Don’t Own Me” off her debut album with Regime Music Societe and the RCA Records, which is a cover version of the 1963 Lesley Gore song. She is well known for her music style of hip hop, Soul and R&B.

Early Life

SayGrace was born on April 8, 1997 in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.

She is from a family of musicians. Her brother, Conrad Sewell, is a music artist known for his single “Start Again” and also for featuring on Kygo’s song “Firestone”.

She went to All Hallows School and Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Primary School, Sunnybank.

Career

Saygrace developed passion for music at a very tender age with music influences from the likes of Amy Winehouse, Janis Joplin, Smokey Robinson and Shirley Bassey.

She got signed with Regime Music Societe and RCA Records in 2015 and came to limelight for her hit single “You Don’t Own Me” which is a cover version of Lesley Galore song, as produced by Quincy Jines and Parker Ighile, while featuring G-Eazy. The song was used to promote the Australian TV series, Love Child, and was also used for Christmas advertisements for House of Fraser in the UK. It was also used as trailer for the film Suicide Squad.

She came through with her debut EP “Memo” in May 2016 and released her debut studio album “Forgive My Attitude (FMA), in July 2016. She co-wrote a track from the album with Fraser T Smith, with additional writing and productions from Parker Ighile, Diana Warren, and Quincy Jones. She also followed up with the release of the official single version of “Boyfriend Jeans”, which was included as a demo version on her first EP, Memo.

She rebranded herself from Grace to Saygrace, in October 2019, and dropped the single “Boys Ain’t Shit”. She also released another single titled “Doin Too Much” om November 22, 2019.

She released her EP, The Defining Moments of Saygrace: Girlhood, Fuckboys and Situationships, on February 7, 2020.

She already boast of collaborations with the likes of Lil Yachty, DJ Cassidy, G-Eazy and many others.
