General Rudzani Maphwanya (born November 23, 1960) is a South African army officer who came to prominence after being appointed as Chief of the South African National Defence Force on June 1, 2021. He also serves as Chief of Joint Operations from 2019 till May 2021.

Early Life
Rudzani Maphwanya was born on November 23, 1969 in South Africa. He obtained a degree at the University of Limpopo. He holds a total Quality Management certificate from the University of South Africa. He went for a Strategic Management Programme at the University of Pretoria.
Moreover, he did a Post Graduate Diploma in Security Management at Wits University, where he also hold a Master of Management degree in 2015.
Career
Rudzani served in the MK in Angola and integrated into the SANDF in 1994. Je also served as SO1 operations, SOS Operations SF Bde, GOC SA Army infantry Formation HQ as well as Chief Joint Operations Division. He came to prominence after being appointed as Chief of the South African National Defence Force on June 1, 2021.
