Early Life
Philip Walter Foden was born on May 28, 2000 in Stockport, England. He was born to parents, Phil Foden Sr and Claire Foden. He also attended St Bede’s College.
Career
Foden began playing football at the age of four where he joined Manchester city and signed his academy scholarship.
As a professional footballer, he was first included by Pep Guardiola in the squad for the champions league group stage match with celtic in December 2016. He was not used in the match which ended in a 1-1 draw at home.
Foden was included in the Manchester’s city squad for the club’s pre-season tour of the United States in July 2017. He performed well in a 0-2 loss to Manchester United and also became a starter in a 4-1 win over Real Madrid.
Foden who made several appearances on the bench at the start of 2017-18 season, eventually made his Manchester City debut on November 21, 2017, in a Champions league match with Feyenord after coming on as a substitute for Yaya Toure in the 75th minute of the game. He became the youngest English player to make an appearance in the Champions league at the age of 17 years after making a start in the UEFA Champions league match in a 2-1 defeat to Shakhtar Donetsk.
He made his Premier League debut on December 16, 2017 in a 4-1 against Tottenham Hotspur where he came on as a substitute for IIkay Gundogan in the 83rd minute.
He also came on as a substitute for Sergio Aguero in the EFL Cup Final on February 25, 2018 where City won Arsenal by 3-0 at the Wembley Stadium. He was also part of the starting line-up for the FA Community Shield on August 5, 2018 where he assisted Aguero’s first goal of the game in a 2-0 victory over Chelsea. He also provided an assist to Riyad Mahrez and scored his first senior goal in a 3-0 win against Oxford United in the third round of the EFL Cup, on September 25, 2018.
He scored his first home goal at the Etihad stadium in Manchester City 7-0 win against Rotherham United in the third round of the FA Cup on January 6, 2019 and scored his first Champions league goal in City’s last 16 tie against Schalke where City won 7-0.
He scored his first Premier league goal on April 20, 2019 in a 1-0 win against Tottenham Hotspur, while becoming the third youngest player to score for the club in the Premier League after Sturridge and Micah Richards.
He won the FA Community Shield against Liverpool at Wembley Stadium on August 4, 2019 where he scored in the penalty shoot out.
Foden made his first Premier League appearance of the 2019-20 season as Manchester City defeated West Ham United 5-0 at the London Stadium.
He won his 8th career trophy as Man City defeated Aston Villa 2-1 in the EFL Cup Final on March 1, 2020.
He scored a goal and provided an assist in City’s 4-0 win against Liverpool on February 7, 2021, which was his team first win at Anfield since 2003.
Foden won his 9th trophy as Manchester City beat Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 in the EFL Cup final in the 2020-21 season.
On the international level, Foden scored twice in the 2017 FIFA World Cup final as England won the competition after defeating Spain. He was also named the best player of the tournament.
He made his debut at the senior level on August 25, 2020 where he was included in the England senior squad for the first time. He played his first match in a 1-0 win against Iceland on September 5, 2020 at the UEFA Nations league tournament. He was also included in the 26 man squad for the UEFA Euro 2020.

Foden is in a relationship with Rebecca Cooke and they have a child together, a son named Ronnie. Rebecca is a British former competitive swimmer.
