Early Life
Izzy Odigie was born Iziegbe Odigie on Octoner 20, 1996, in Brooklyn, New York, United States and was raised in Nigeria where she went to a boarding school. She grew up in Edo State to be precise. Her father was a businessman and her mother, Osarenoma Odigie was a nurse.
Career
Odigie developed passion for dancing in school and was encouraged to participate in dance competitions.
She first took interest in Hip hop at first and then began to train in ballet, modern and jazz.
She returned to America in 2007 and attended St John’s University in Queens, New York where she discovered her love with afrobeats. She was part of a dance collective where she established her committed work ethic.
She came to the limelight in 2015 after she danced with Eddy Kenzo and was known for Afro dance.
She got the opportunity to be part of the One Africa Fest crew after she met the Nigerian choreographer Kaffy. She also got the opportunity to perform with Tiwa Savage at Budweiser’s Made in America Festival. She went on to perform with Mr Eazi at the TIDAL x Brooklyn annual benefit concert at the Barclays Center.
Odigie performed with Burna Boy on the Infamous Apollo Theater stage where she showed off her amazing zanku dance in “killing Dem”. She has also worked with the likes of Yemi Alade and Moonchild Sanelly.
She became the first Afrobeat dancer to go on tour in Japan. She also released a self-titled dance film “Iziegbe”.
Odigie and also choreographed in one epsiode of the fifth series of the Fox US drama, Empire, in 2020.
