Early Life
Aya Nakamura was born Aya Coco Danioko on May 10, 1995, in Bamako, Mali. She was raised in a Christian background and oldest of her five siblings. She moved to France with her family and grew up in Aulney-sous Bois.
She studied French at La Courneuve before she delved into music.
Career
Nakamura began doing music at the age of 19 and released her first song “Karma” on Facebook.
She made a couple of releases in 2016 such as “Brise” and “Love d’un Voyou” featuring Fababy. She eventually signed a record deal with Rec. 118, a label from Warner music France, in January 2016.
She came through with her debut album, Journal Intine, on August 25, 2017. The album comprises six tracks and also feature the rapper Gradur.
Aya gained recognition for the release of her hit single “Djadja” on April 6, 2018. It became the first Francophone song since 2009 to get to the top of the Dutch charts. She also released a Spanish-language version of “Djadja” with Colombian singer Maluma.
She released her second studio album, Nakamura on November 2, 2018. She was nominated for Best Urban Album at the France music Awards in February 2019.
She gained more exposure in 2019 for her single “Pookie” which boasts over 240 million views on YouTube. It also has high-profile international versions with top rappers like Capo Plaza and Lil Pump.
She released the single “Jolie Nana” as the lead single off her third album Aya, on July 17, 2020. She eventually released the album “Aya” on October 4, 2020, with features from the likes of Ms Banks and Stormzy.
Nakamura has released other songs like Whine Up, Dans ma bulle, Claque, Idiot, Hot, La Machine, Mon Cheri, Doudou, Bobo, Nirvana, and many others.
