Man United well beaten at Stoke as Louis van Gaal pressure grows

Stoke City piled the pressure on Louis van Gaal with a 2-0 victory over Manchester United at the Britannia Stadium.
United — who started with captain Wayne Rooney on the bench — had
an early chance when Jack Butland struggled to control a backpass and
Memphis Depay nearly took advantage, but the goalkeeper recovered.

Stoke found themselves in the lead on 19 minutes when Glen Johnson
set up Bojan Krkic to slot home at close range following a poor header
from Depay towards David De Gea.

They doubled their advantage soon afterwards when the ball fell to
Marko Arnautovic on the edge of the area following a free kick and he
fired a powerful shot beyond De Gea’s reach. It might have been 3-0 soon
afterwards, but Arnautovic fired wide with only the keeper to beat.
Rooney was brought on for Depay at the break, and he nearly helped
United find a way back into the game when he set up Marouane Fellaini in
front of goal with just over an hour gone, but the Belgian’s shot was
tame and Butland made the stop.
