In what seems to be a Christmas gift for fans, Jose Mourinho was finally sacked by Manchester United after a disappointing 3-1 loss to Liverpool at Anfield.
Manchester United are in the sixth place in the league, 19 points behind Liverpool and 11 points off fourth place Chelsea.
Assistant coach, Michael Carrick will be in charge of the team on temporary basis. United had said it will appoint a caretaker manager until the end of the season but didn’t mention who it will be.
“Manchester United announces that manager Jose Mourinho has left the club with immediate effect.
“The club would like to thank Jose for his work during his time at Manchester United and to wish him success in the future.
“A new caretaker manager will be appointed until the end of the current season, while the club conducts a thorough recruitment process for a new, full-time manager.”
Mourinho had won two titles in his first season for Manchester United – the English league cup and the Europa League. He failed to win a trophy in his second season and was also heavily criticized for the team playing style.
He has been a manager for clubs such as FC Porto, Inter Milan, Chelsea and Real Madrid.
Manchester United are already in the last 16 of Champions league where it will play Paris Saint Germain.
