Whatsapp who has earlier announced that they would not be supporting Blackberry OS and Blackberry 10 by December 30, 2016, seems to have change their mind.
However, according to an update in the FAQ of the Whatsapp app, it has now been extended to June 30, 2017.
Whatsapp support for mobile devices
As announced in our blog, we will soon be ending support for certain devices. As at June 2017, we will no longer support the following platforms;
Blackeberry OS and Blackberry 10, Nokia S40, Nokia Symbian S60.
The following platforms will no longer be supported at the beginning of 2017:
Android 2.1 and Android 2.2, Windows Phone 7, Iphone 3GS/IOS6.
According to their words; “These platforms to offer the kind of capabilities we need to expand our app’s feature in the future. If you use one of these affected mobile devices, we recommend upgrading to a newer Android running OS 2.3+, a windows phone 8+ , and an Iphone running IOS 7+ before the end of 2016 in order to continue using Whatsapp”.
The new update for the blackberry 10 version is available through the Blackberry application world, it should be noted that this just reset the time-bomb built into the app. So many people are already trying to dispose off their phones to get compatible ones but i guess they will now wait a little bit more.
